Changing the World: Have you found your leprechaun?

When you’re in the brainstorming stage anything seems possible. You see a rainbow in the sky and imagine a pot of gold. But do you always think about how difficult it is to find the leprechaun or the four-leaf clover that can bring you that pot of gold? It’s like this with ideas, or at least the making of great ones.

We focus on these GREAT ideas –ideas that we wish. No. That is not correct. These are ideas that we BELIEVE will change the world. Ideas so good, somehow everything around them will be altered by the shear gravity of their greatness.

And then nothing happens, or nothing happens over night.

And the creeping reality materializes: The idea of the pot of gold was the easy part. The part we’re at right now, is finding that pesky leprechaun or that four-leaf clover.

In essence, we’re breaking our greater motivation and desire into smaller, more concrete steps. A blog post here. A tweet there. Another supporter. Another friend.

If you’ve been following the Goodzuma blog, you already know some of the ideas that sparked their interest in us.

Our idea was to create a “sweet community” for United Way NYC. Tying in vendors like Cold Stone creamery to offer promotions to those who volunteer with United Way. The idea, the need, was for United Way to engage more young people by having a presence at the places that young people go.

We now find ourselves expanding and shrinking in lock-step to our world: Goodzuma, United Way NYC, Students, ourselves. Our idea has changed.

We are working hard. We are striving towards regular twitter and blog posts, trying to tailor content, looking for better ways to engage and just doing. We will speak more about this as it comes to fruition.

We know that the leprechaun must be gotten before the pot of gold. Have you found yours?

What is 10 times greater than Old Spice Guy?

Dear Minions (we love you),

Fighting for good is hard. But somebody’s got to do it.

Marcus and I recently met with some of the incredible people who help NYC to Live United, or should we say, “live inspired”.

Thank you United Way NYC! It is organizations like you that make it easy to want to do good!

“But what the heck does United Way of New York do?”, you ask with lips pursed in in silent if not intimidating determination.

WELL.

United Way = The unbearable greatness of great things which can’t be described unless greatly.

Nonetheless. At your intimidating insistence, we will attempt to use all our superhuman abilities to communicate this.

The United Way believes that  there are three essential keys to a “good life”:

  EDUCATION, INCOME and  HEALTH

-United Way of New York City (UWNYC) provides a number of assistance programs throughout the city to ensure that all it’s residence are capable of attaining them.

-They also provide monetary assistance to a number of smaller non profits. They were able to raise and donate almost $100 MILLION last year alone.

Basically, if United Way of NYC were a person. That person would be greater than all the imaginings of Old Spice Guy combined. That’s right, 10+ times more amazing than riding a horse backwards while simultaneously surfing, chopping lumber and saving a village full of orphan refugees who just escaped from North Korea.

Keep this in mind next time you’re thinking about greatness.

We will leave you with that for now, stay tuned for more good stuff coming your way.

With Love,

Kara and Marcus

“Good” has real-life Superheroes?

Greetings,

Good Happens.

We are a testament to this. We also testify for further goodness.

Who we are?

This is the blog of Marcus Ellison and Kara Smith. We won “Goodzuma’s United Way NYC Challenge to pitch to change the world”.

Together we’re Goodzuma Superheros (aka fellows) fighting for awareness of the awesomely cool United Way NYC.

As superheroes we’ve decided that our superpowers are as follows:

 I sweat dreams.

Kara bleeds goodness.

If you are still reading my intro you just earned some cool points. If you follow us on twitter, you get more cool points. (though cool points will never have any “real world value”, I think they are pretty cool)

Read our blog posts to learn how we progress in our quest to change the world (by being awesome Goodzuma-United Way fellows).

With Love,

Marcus & Kara
